5,600 Streaming Videos

October 19, 2010

RCC library now provides access to over 5,600 educational streaming videos from Films on Demand.  Films on Demand is the web-based delivery service of Films Media Group which distributes works of producers like Films for the Humanities & Sciences, BBC, PBS, National Geographic and many others.

Accessing the videos is simple.

  • Go to the library web page, www.rcc.mass.edu/lib and select Streaming Videos.   (If off campus, also enter your library barcode number.)
  • To search by word or phrase, enter it in the Search box.  Choose  Search by Titles or Search by Segments in the dropdown box.   Most titles are 30 to 45 minutes long.  Most segments are 2 to 8 minutes long.  The 5,600 video titles are divided into over 60,000 segments.  Searching by segment allows for a very precise search result.
  • There is also Advanced Search option.
  • To browse, select options along the left:
    • View By Subject.
    • Most Viewed Videos at RCC.
    • Recently Added Videos to RCC.  About 600 are added per year.
    • Featured videos in the middle of the screen.
  • For advanced features, such as creating your own Playlists or Favorites, you need to set up an account inside Films on Demand.  Click Watch “Home Page” Tutorial for instructions.

Good luck and have fun.

Facebook

October 6, 2010

The RCC library has added a Facebook account to its services.  With over a half billion users, Facebook is the largest social networking site worldwide.  There are Facebook accounts at hundreds of college libraries across the country.  The primary reason for starting a Facebook account through the RCC library is to have an alternative way to inform students of the library’s quickly changing list of resources and services and to encourage reference questions and other comments.

To see the new site, click on the Facebook icon on the library’s webpage at www.rcc.mass.edu/lib.  If you are already signed up on Facebook, we encourage you to “like” the RCC library.
